Frequently Asked Questions

According to the Cord Blood Banking Regulation issued by the Ministry of Health on July 5, 2005, the storage period of cord blood is specified as 15 years, but studies have proven that cord blood can be stored for 25 years. In practice, the first cord blood in the world was stored 32 years ago and still continues to be stored.
According to the Cord Blood Banking Regulation and the content of the freezing and storage contract signed between Stembio and the family, the right to use the cord blood/tissue or MSC is reserved for the mother and father until the baby turns 18. During this time, the parent can use it for another family member or donate it. However, after the person whose stem cell sources are stored reaches the age of 18 or if he/she becomes legally younger, the right to use belongs entirely to the individual.
There is a possibility that stem cells cannot be used for reasons such as the stem cell sources delivered to the bank cannot be studied under appropriate conditions and criteria in the bank, the calibration settings of the device used in the separation process are incorrect, the qualifications of the personnel who will perform the transactions, the freezing and storage system of the processed resources, the technical characteristics of the devices and the physical conditions of the building where the storage process is carried out.
The TR Ministry of Health secured the donor who kept the cord tissue with the cord blood banking regulation on July 5, 2005. As per this regulation, in the event that the umbilical cord and/or cord blood becomes unusable due to other natural disasters and/or defect, excluding extraordinary situations such as war, and in case of medical need of the child or first degree relative (mother, father and sibling) whose umbilical cord and/or cord blood has been stored, the StemCord accepts and undertakes to carry out all necessary procedures for the supply of suitable tissue from domestic and foreign sources and to bear the costs.
It is not possible to mix the stored stem cell source with another product in StemCord, which has national and international accreditation. A 128-line barcode label resistant to -196 °C is affixed on the storage bag and cassette of the product, which is ready to be frozen and stored in StemCord. Through this barcode label, which is affixed to storage bags and cassettes and read with a scanner integrated into the user interface of the device, an address is opened for each product in the automatic system inventory. In this way, the stored product is not mixed with any other product. It makes it possible to store the product, which is automatically memorized without user intervention, without deteriorating, without any cell melting (destruction), without time limitation, if annual rental fees are paid.
After the collected cord blood/cord tissue or MSC storage process, the following documents are delivered to the address of the relevant family within 20-30 working days: • A copy of the contract with the parent at the time of birth • Final product approval form showing the birth information, the amount of blood or tissue and the number of stem cells obtained in the stem cell separation process • Certificate certified by Stembio Cord Blood Bank Stem Cell Tissue Center
