How is Stem Cell Therapy Performed?

Stem cell application can be given to the patient through the vein after the preparation of the appropriate stem cell, or it can be applied directly to the damaged organ or by surgical procedures. Stem cells, after transplantation, multiply and turn into cells needed by the organism, and they can repair the damaged tissue or organ.

The response to treatment may vary depending on the type of the disease, its period and the complications experienced. Also, in some cases, stem cell adhesion may not occur. In this case, the stem cell transplant may need to be repeated.

  • Autologous transplant is the transplantation of the stem cell taken from the person himself.
  • Allogeneic transplant is the transplantation of the stem cell from a donor to another recipient.
  • In some cases, haploidentic transplantation is the transplantation of a stem cell taken from a semi-matched donor to the patient when the stem cell cannot be obtained from the person himself and a suitable donor cannot be found.
